Custom Articulated Action Figure Manufacturing

ITTAK manufactures articulated plastic action figures. Define the intended poses and movement first, then review joint interfaces, part materials, decoration clearance and assembly as a connected system.

Product & service scope

An articulated action figure is designed for deliberate movement and pose changes. A movable accessory or a fixed-pose statue with detachable parts is not the same requirement. Share the actions and poses the product must perform instead of using joint count as the only specification.

Plan the specification

What to review before the quotation

Use these review topics to define the actual project. Specifications, processes, quantities, cost, timing and evaluation methods are agreed individually.

01

Joint map and range of movement

List the moving interfaces and illustrate the desired poses. Identify where the sculpt, clothing or accessories limit movement. Review the joint arrangement against the intended appearance before committing to a part breakdown or tooling plan.

02

Fit and pose retention

Clarify how tight or loose a joint should feel, how the figure is supported and which accessories are interchangeable. Agree the sample checks and any repeated-movement evaluation required. A digital model or a printed prototype alone does not establish production joint performance.

03

Material and decoration interfaces

ITTAK produces HIPS, ABS and PVC components in-house. Joint material requirements are reviewed individually; do not assume all joint parts use the same plastic. Identify paint-free contact areas and places where surfaces may rub, so appearance and movement are considered together.

04

Assembly and complete-set approval

Review joint installation order, orientation, accessory fit and the packed pose. Approve a representative assembled figure and its included parts rather than evaluating loose components only. Define how joint, decoration and packaging changes trigger another approval.

Start with what you know

Prepare your project brief

You do not need every answer before the first conversation. Mark unknowns so confirmed requirements are separated from engineering decisions still to make.

  • Scale, body proportions and sculpt or reference views
  • Joint map, intended range of movement and target poses
  • Interchangeable hands, heads, accessories and connection details
  • Material preferences and critical contact surfaces
  • Paint references and required sample or movement checks
  • Quantity, sales markets, packaging and target schedule

Before sharing designs

Begin with a non-confidential overview

Ask about an NDA and an appropriate transfer method before sending unreleased files. Identify the brand or character rights and the permission to use supplied artwork for manufacture.

Tell us whether you need product manufacturing or a mold-only project. We welcome worldwide inquiries, including English-speaking markets and Japan.

Buyer questions

Before you commission the project

Is a higher joint count always better?

No. The useful requirement is the motion and pose range the product must deliver while preserving its appearance. Extra joints can change the part count, assembly and review work without improving the intended experience.

Can you guarantee joint durability from a 3D file?

No. Production performance depends on materials, geometry, fit, manufacturing and use conditions. Agree suitable sample evaluations and acceptance criteria before approving production; a 3D file is an engineering input, not test evidence.

Can interchangeable accessories be included?

Yes, they can be part of the review. Provide the accessory list, interface dimensions if available, intended handling and packed contents. Fit and retention need consideration across the actual combination of components.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send a non-confidential overview of size, joint intent, design maturity, quantity and finishing. Identify unresolved engineering questions. Tooling, samples, production and validation work can then be separated in the project scope.
